Don't know nothing

"Theologians" by Wilco

More or less just that one word: the-o-lo-gians over and over.

Their enthusiasm is infectious!

I woke up in a great mood today.  This could be for several reasons:
  1. It's Friday and I get to spend the weekend in Philly with family.
  2. I had a great night with good friends + a yummy single malt scotch last night.
  3. I finally watched this week's Glee and Florence and the Machine's Dog Days are Over was sung.  The Gleeks' enthusiasm is infectious! Plus this song is fantastic. Welcome to my cubicle's dance party today!

Never gonna get it...

"Free your mind" by En Vogue

Yes the line in the title is from a different song.

Stuck in a basement...

I'm gonna call this one "Stuck in a basement" by Will Smith

I can't embed the video, but if you don't know what I'm talking about check this out!

Bobbay!

"I wanna dance with somebody" by Whitney Houston

Not sure how she got in there, but young Whitney's not a bad Monday kickoff.

Radio (in my) head

"Karma Police" by Radiohead

Friday seems like an appropriate day to think about karma...

Xana-do I really have this song in my head?

"Xanadu" by ABBA

I blame Thursday night's Halloween episode of Community.  I do love a good Halloween episode!

You take the good, you take the bad

"Facts of Life Theme Song"

Blair was probably my favorite.  Besides George Clooney.

I can think of younger days...

"How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" by Al Green

We heard this in the car over the weekend.  Despite the plain beauty of the song itself, it kept making me think of a movie montage that I could not remember.  Alas, the interwebs have brought me the answer: Notting Hill.

Hmm...

"We've Got Tonight" by Bob Seger

A strange song to go to for a 7:30 AM shower. This is one whose larger meaning will remain unknown, I think.

Twosday

"You Really Gotta Hold on Me" covered by She and Him

and...

"Stu's Song" by Ed Helms

Romance, hangovers, and tigers.  Makes sense to me.

There's danger to be found...

"Mr. Downtown" by Freddy Fredrickson (That Thing You Do!)

Also in the shower, I started to think about how much I dislike Mr. James Cameron and then I had the unfortunate biproduct of "My Heart Will Go On" by Celine Dion.  That French-Canadian accented, power ballad has bothered me since 1997.  Dangerous...

The one sampled in Ghetto Superstar

"Islands in the Stream" by the Bee Gees

This song is probably best known for being performed by Dolly Parton and Kenny Rogers, OR as the melody of "Ghetto Superstar" from the movie Bulworth.

I also enjoy this version from Season Two of The Office.

Scooby Snacks--Two for Tuesday

Two songs today, gang.

At 4 AM:

"Christmas Song" by the Felice Brothers

At the normal wake up time:

"Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! theme song" by Danny Janssen and Austin Roberts

Mystery solved.

Not Snookin'--Wookin'

"Wookin' pa nub" by Buckwheat

Otherwise known as "Lookin' for Love" by Waylon Jennings

For some reason the SNL/Eddie Murphy version was playing this morning.  Jersey Shore influence?

But in a nice way

"Bad things" by Jace Everett

Not a surprising choice, brain, given how much you enjoyed Trueblood last night.

Apparently, I'm halfway there

"Livin' on a Prayer" by Bon Jovi

I am particularly repeating the intro and the key change.  Inspirational Tuesday!

Billy Joel State of Mind

"Vienna" by Mr. William Joel

A good choice for a girl who wants to grow up, but what about a grownup who wants to be a girl?

These are the questions.

We're not in Kansas anymore

"Africa" by Toto

This song was a hit the year I was born.  This morning it was a hit all shower long...

Monday, July 12, 2010

Way back play back

"I can't fight this feeling anymore" by REO Speedwagon.

Here's to fighting that Monday morning feeling...

"Make every song you sing...

...Your favorite tune!!”

Shine a Light by The Rolling Stones

This has been stuck in my head for days, along with tid bits of other Exile on Main Street grittiness. It’s a good belt your heart out with the windows down kinda thing.

So yeah....

"All the right moves" by OneRepublic

I'm going to say this one has something to do with a commercial or the Today Show or something.

Mind has been occupado

Showerhead has been neglected of late.  Seems I've had too much non-musical to think about to keep track of my soundtrack.  Here's what I've got on repeat right now:

"Meadowlarks" by Fleet Foxes

Gurls Rile

"California Gurls" by Katy Perry

I may be an east coast girl and I may be too old for sugary pop, but there you have it.  I also thought this was cool.

Jagged Little Comeback

"Head over Feet" by Alanis Morisette

Two old-school Alanis songs in the span of a week.  Am I missing my near-Canada hometown?  My play-a-cd-on-repeat habits of middle school?  Such is the mystery of the showerheadsong.

Tuesday, June 8, 2010

As far as boyfriends go, Paulie Bleeker is totally boss

"I'm sticking with you" by Velvet Underground

I know this is a great song on it's own, but it will always make me think of Juno, which is a very special movie.

Friday, June 4, 2010

ohh that's the kind of love I want

"Summer Morning Rain"- The Duke & The King

Timmy and I have been driving to work in the morning with gas station coffees in hand and various Felice songs streaming through Lola's speakers. This tune struck a special nerve today and I wish you all a very, very special weekend.

Isn't it?

"Ironic" by Alanis Morisette

What?!

Happy Friday!

"Love Me Tenderly" by The Felice Brothers

I heard the brothers might be having a hard time, so they were on my mind this morning.  Wishing Simone a speedy recovery.

Another Two-fer

"Wolves (Act I and II)" by Bon Iver

Also, "Ain't Too Proud to Beg" by the Temptations

Worn out places, Worn out faces

"Mad World" by Gary Jules
I'm beginning to think I prefer to ponder in film sequences rather than reality. If this idea didn't qualify me borderline delusional, I'd almost embrace it considering I have always relished in the concept of a personal soundtrack. This depressing track would be a fitting theme this week. I start my first job tomorrow in the cubicle I never saw coming. 'Tis a mad, mad world indeed.

Sometimes You Just Have to Get Away With the Girls

Sex & the City Theme Song

Since tonight is the big premiere of SATC 2, it seems appropriate that I woke up with this epic jingle playing in my head. Then I turned on the TV and who else is on Regis & Kelly but Miss SJP herself. I don't think I'll escape the infamous ladies of love until I finally see the much-anticipated film tonight!

Two for Flinching

Two songs rolling around my brain this morning.

1. "Funky Town" by Lipps, Inc.  Probably because of this.

2.  "Gives you Hell" by All American Rejects.  I can't explain this one, because I think I've only ever heard this song once or twice, but it was the more persistent in my brain.

Happy Thursday and give em hell out there!

Murder.

"Murder on the Dance Floor" by Sophie Ellis Bexter

Brought on by my morning meeting frustration

Heart Breaker

"Break Your Heart" by Taio Cruz

You know you're going to make it to Friday when you're fist pumping in the shower Wednesday morning.

Reality Bites

"My Sharona" by The Knack
Whenever the roommate and I were feeling down-and-out, this jam was there to pick us up and dance it out. I just watched Reality Bites, a fitting film for post-grad life, and this classic tune has been rockin' in my noggin' ever since.

You're Welcome

Welcome to my experiment.  And please, don't thank me for getting this one stuck in your head.

7:45 AM: "I got my mind set on you" Originally recorded by James Ray, but on repeat in my head by George Harrison.
